One play turned Carson Honick's baseball season upside down.
"I was in center field and I made a dive and I tried to make a play on the ball and I accidentally dove into my left fielder and we had a collision and my elbow dislocated," said Carson Honick, a senior linebacker and centerfielder at Community School of Naples Football.
The physical pain seemed insignificant to the dual-sport athlete.
"Most of the pain was knowing that my season was probably over, rather than the pain of my elbow dislocating," said Honick.
Determined to return to the field, Honick endured weeks of challenging physical therapy.
"It was stuck at about a 95 degree angle for about a month and it just would not move," said Honick. "I would go to different doctors and get some extra work on it, because that's how bad I really wanted to get back."
His hard work paid off, and his elbow healed in time for him to suit up for the Seahawks’ football team his senior year.
"Carson has been our leading tackler for the last two seasons. He's been instrumental in our defense," said Jonah Dubinski, head coach of Community School of Naples Football. "He's a leader on the baseball field. He's a leader on the football field. He came back better than he was his junior season. I think he'll do the same in baseball this spring."
Honick trusted the process and is now reaping the rewards his final year on the gridiron.
"I just really try and have fun with the guys and just try and get better as a football player and better as a man too," said Honick. "There's a bunch of life lessons that go into it, but the goal is to really just have fun. It's my senior season, so just go out there, have fun, tackle some people."
So far this season, Carson has 22 total tackles through five games, according to MaxPreps.
The Seahawks will host Zephyrhills Christian this Friday at 7 p.m.
