Every day, two children lose their lives in car crashes, according to the National Highway Traffic Administration. It's a heartbreaking statistic that underscores the importance of proper safety measures.
Today is National Seat Check Saturday. Several local fire departments, sheriff's offices, community centers and Golisano Children's Hospital offer free car seat inspections for families by appointment throughout the year. Car seat technicians will make sure the safety seats are being used correctly.
Julie Noble, the Safe Kids SWFL coordinator at Golisano's, said simple adjustments can make all the difference to keep children safe.
"So maybe one of the lower anchors isn't properly connected to the vehicle or maybe the seatbelt isn't locked," said Noble. "You know that peace of mind that their child is safe. That's the biggest thing."
Safe Kids SWFL is hosting two car seat checkup events.
