Southwest Florida marked the third anniversary of Hurricane Ian's devastation, remembering the storm that wiped out every dock and boat launch in 2022.
Over the past three years, the community has been working hard to rebuild, with businesses reopening and structures being restored on the mainland.
On Sanibel, the Harbour Yacht Club reopened in April 2023, symbolizing recovery and resilience. Members reflected on their journey since the reopening.
Manager Adrian Boneta shared the club's commitment to preparedness and resilience.
"We're in the state of Florida, and all our owners here are boat owners, they buy their boat slip because of their boats, and they want it taken care of, understanding that, especially after Helene and Milton hit, anything can happen, and being prepared for it, and having the staff that we do here at the Sanibel Harbour Yacht Club and the leadership, especially that they will always have the Sanibel Harbour Yacht Club," said Boneta. "It's not going anywhere."
The anniversary served as a reminder of Sanibel's resilience, celebrating progress and the return of life to the waters.
