A recent public Zoom meeting held with members of the Fort Myers Police Department was unexpectedly disrupted when unauthorized individuals from international locations logged in and broadcast inappropriate content.

The Fort Myers Police Department says it did not set up the meeting or provide links.

The City of Fort Myers swiftly contained the incident, removing the participants immediately.

According to the city's IT Department, no sensitive or confidential information was compromised during the interruption.

The city has reported the incident to Zoom’s trust and safety team and provided all meeting logs and digital evidence to the Fort Myers Police Department for further investigation.

In response, the City of Fort Myers has strengthened its procedures for hosting online meetings. Staff coordinating public sessions are now working closely with the city's IT Department to ensure enhanced security. The city has also switched to the Zoom Webinar platform, which allows only the host to control the meeting.

The City of Fort Myers emphasized its commitment to securing the integrity of its meetings while ensuring public access and transparency in city government operations. The city's Zoom account is now locked to allow only users from the United States. International participants must notify IT to temporarily unblock their country.
