A federal government employee has been taken into custody after an “active shooter hoax” led to a lockdown at New Jersey’s largest military base. The incident happened Tuesday morning at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. In a social media post, acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba said a civilian employee was in custody for “conveying false information regarding an active shooter at Joint Base McGuire.” The base went into lockdown at around 11 a.m., with all personnel ordered to take cover. The lockdown was lifted just before noon. The base is one of the nation’s largest military installations, combining Air Force, Army and Navy functions.
